Al Lubel became a lawyer to please his mother and a year later became a standup comedian in order to displease her.
Getting stage time is hard for a new comic so Al, unannounced, would suddenly stand up in the middle of restaurants while people were in the middle of eating dinner and do his five minutes. As Al says, “And I almost always got big laughs because, looking back on it, I think they were scared that I was insane.”
Al began getting work at comedy clubs and within a year won the $100,000 Comedy Grand Prize on television’s Star Search. Doing the Tonight Show was a childhood fantasy so he auditioned and luckily became one of the last comics to appear with Johnny Carson. He then went on to make a bunch of appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the Late Show with David Letterman.
In 1992, Al was the subject of A Standup Life, directed by Peter Lydon for the BBC. A documentary about American standup comedy, it features Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope, Mort Sahl and Joan Rivers.
Al’s solo show, Mentally Al, won the Amused Moose Award Judges Prize as the best one person show in the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Two years later he was nominated for best performer of a one person show by the Barry Awards at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2016, Al was Marc Maron’s guest on WTF and a year later moved to London where he did standup for three years in the UK and Europe.

But Al does admit to missing the practice of law. “I’d like to have just one more trial, something serious like a murder trial because right before I give closing argument and my client’s fate hinges on every word I say I want to see his face when I turn to him and whisper, I’m a comedian!”
Myq Kaplan has appeared on the Tonight Show, Conan, Letterman, James Corden, Seth Meyers, Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, and America’s Got Talent. He has a one-hour standup special on Amazon, “Small, Dork, and Handsome,” and two podcasts, The Faucet and Broccoli and Ice Cream. His first album, “Vegan Mind Meld,” was one of iTunes’ top 10 comedy albums of the year, and his newest album, “A.K.A.,” debuted at #1. The NY Times called it “invigoratingly funny” and included it among its five “coronavirus best new comedy specials”… “to remind you of the old normal.” And now, here we are in the new weird!
Ophira Eisenberg is a standup comedian, writer, and host of the award-winning comedy podcast Parenting Is A Joke. She also regularly hosts and tours with the Peabody Awarding winning radio show and podcast, The Moth Radio Hour, and podcast. She also hosted NPR’s Ask Me Another where she interviewed and played silly games with hundreds of celebrities including Sir Patrick Stewart, Rosie Perez, Yo-Yo Ma, Roxanne Gay, Nick Kroll, Chelsea Handler, and more. She’s appeared multiple times on CBS’s The Late Late Show, Sherri! with Sherri Sheppard, Comedy Central, HBO, The New York Festival, and is regular on The Moth Radio Hour. Her stories are included in three of The Moth’s best-selling collections. Her memoir, Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way to Monogamy was optioned for a TV series, and her recent comedy special Plant- Based Jokes is streaming on YouTube. Liz Glazer is an award-winning standup comedian, actor, and writer known for her smart, personal, and hilariously honest comedy. Liz’s new comedy special Do You Know Who I’m Not? is now streaming on YouTube. She has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Nate Bargatze’s The Showcase.
Liz won was featured in a full-length profile in The Wall Street Journal. Her work has also been covered by Above the Law, The Jewish Standard, The Pennsylvania Gazette, and other publications.
Before comedy, Liz was a tenured law professor. She earned her B.A. magna cum laude and M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in just four years, then attended the University of Chicago Law School, where she served on the Law Review. She practiced as a transactional real estate attorney at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in New York, and later earned tenure at Hofstra Law School.
Liz now draws on her unique life experiences—as a former lawyer, law professor, a lesbian, a rabbi’s wife and a mother — bringing insight and laughter to audiences across the country. She performs regularly at top comedy clubs and festivals, as well as at law firms, law schools, synagogues, theaters and corporate events.
